Our home visiting volunteer Emma Serjeant is taking part in “Race the Train” in Tywyn, mid-Wales, on Saturday, 20th August. This is a 14-mile race, up hill and down dale, and Emma is also seeking sponsorship in aid of Home-Start.
Spectators and supporters ride on the train whilst runners run against it over a variety of terrain.
Emma says she hasn't completely lost her marbles but if you're glad it's not you racing against trains, why not sponsor her....? Any amount is appreciated and you can sponosr emma quickly and easily on her page at www.justgiving.com/Emma-Serjeant
Thank you
Roger & Stephen's Cumbria Way Hike
Roger Logue and his friend Stephen Hughes have undertaken a sponsored long-distance hike on the Cumbria Way, a total of 86 miles. They are raising funds to support Home-Start Kirklees.
Although always a keen walker, this has been a big challenge for Roger as he underwent coronory bypass surgery in October 2010. Roger and his family have supported Home-Start Kirklees since we first began helping local families 12 years ago. He said "The surgery has meant that I can now live life to the full again and I want to help give needy children a good start in life. Home-Start Kirklees does some sterling work supporting children and their families who might be struggling for a variety of reasons. If you know how rewarding and how tough family life can be, you will understand why we want to help".
Stephen is a keen walker and cyclist but this was his first backpacking trip.
The two friends started their hike at Ulverston on 7th August and backpacked in very wet conditions through Coniston, Great Langdale, Keswick and Caldbeck before finishing in Carlisle on 12th August. We are particularly grateful for the support Roger & Stephen have given us at a time when our funding is being cut.
